Getting ready for Christmas

Well it is that time of year again!
IT'S CHRISTMAS! YEA!

It is time to get ready. See my wife is doing her part.

A December sunrise from our house

We at the White house try to do something every year that is kind of a tradition.
My wife bakes about 20 dozen sugar cookies and then invites our kids over to help frost and decorate them. This year was no different. Most of the time we pass them out to family, friends, and neighbors.

Another thing we try and do is go around town and see houses lit up with Christmas lights, One such place is the neighborhood of Winterhaven. Almost every house in this neighborhood has lights and some sort of theme out front. It takes about 2 hours and is well worth the walk, or you could ride in the horse drawn wagons. This year We went with our daughter Lori and her family Aaron, Adaya, and Brynlee.

Also we like getting together with family and friends at this time of year and have some chaotic fun. This year we had a small get together at our house with our grown children and friends from Green Bay, WI.

Well I think that is it for now,

"I wish all of you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year"

Summer 2007 Motorcycle Ride

Last summer I took the first long distance motorcycle ride of my life. I have a 2001 Yamaha Road Star that I love too ride, but up until this ride my longest was 370 miles. This ride I am about to tell you about was over 4200 miles long, took 12 days and took me and my riding buddies through 9 states. Day 1: I left Tucson, AZ. on June 21 and headed for Flagstaff, AZ., daily total 258 miles. At this point I was by myself but would meet up with the rest of the group in Flagstaff. Day 2: Four riders left Flagstaff the next day and headed for Gallup, NM., All Interstate with lots of desert landscape. daily total 185 miles. Day 3: We left Gallup and headed for Durango, CO., but took a detour along the way to see Mesa Verde N.P.. This was the first day that was not on freeways or interstate highways. The next three plus days would be like this all on back country roads. 225 miles. Day 4: From Durango, to Salida, CO., We passed over several high mountain passes. Very cold! 236 miles. Day 5: From Salida, CO. to Cheyene, WY.,our route to us to Rocky Mountain N.P. which was spectacular with higher mountain peaks to cross and lots of elk and other wildlife to be seen. Riding through Colorado was one of the best parts of the trip for me. 304 miles. Day 6: Cheyenne, WY. to Hill City, SD.. We spent two days here. We visited Mt Rushmore N.P., very patriotic and inspiring, and the Crazy Horse Memorial plus took an all day ride down the Needles highway through Custer S.P.. Total miles for the two days including ride from Cheyenne about 405 miles. Day 7: From Hill City SD. to Livingston, MT. stopped at the Little Bighorn Battlefield Mon., TV or movies does not do this justice, wow! total 447 miles. Day 8: From Livingston to Missoula, MT. with a stop in Deer Lodge, MT. to tour the The Old Montana Prison and Car Museum. Total 228 miles. Day 9: From Missoula, MT. to Burns, OR. we followed the Little Salmon River through Idaho for a good portion of the ride. This was great, lots of twistys. Total 472 miles. Day 10: From Burns, OR. to Reno, NV. not a bad ride but no stops other than gas and food. Total 364 miles. Day 11: From Rene, NV, to Banning, CA. this was a great day riding down the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains and then with a detour through Yosemite N.P. in CA.. In my oppinion Yosemite is one of the most spectular places on Earth. Just after passing through Yosemite the other two riders left me and I rode the rest of the way back to Tucson, AZ. by myself. Total for the day 596 miles. Day 12: This was the last day of the ride and the most boring. At this point I just wanted to get home. Total 410 miles. All in all a great ride that I would recommend this trip to anyone on a bike or on in an automobile. Great time!!!
